S. West Street – next to the ballfield
In the Hudson Library’s History Room there is a binder which includes genealogy of the McClure family. It begins with William McClure, b. May 4, 1818 in Pennsylvania, d. March 7, 1907 and currently concludes with Eli LaMar, b. March 23, 2003.
William along with his wife and eight children arrived in Hudson in April 1858. He bought out lots 98 and 99 located on the northeast edge of Hudson for $15. Soon after his arrival, he and his sons built a brick, one-room house, 10 by 14 ft. The house included a fireplace, two windows, one door and bunk beds that hung from the wall. William sold the two lots and brick house to Samuel V. Calhoun for $600 in 1865, since he had purchased 80 acres 4 ½ miles north of Hudson in Section 7 for approximately $12 per acre, with the help of his sons. On this land, the McClures built a small 18 by 24 ft. house. They lived in this dwelling for ten years until a larger house was built. By that time, five of the now ten children had married.
*In 2002, the little brick house was moved to its current location from 502 N. Broadway Street when out lots 98 and 99 were donated by Ruth Bitting Hamm to the Hudson Fire Department. The larger house on the property was razed and the new firehouse was built.
