Veterans Memorial Park

In 1940, the Hudson Men’s Club was established. At their meeting on February 21, 1945, it was voted to erect a memorial to the veterans of all wars who served from Hudson Township. The site for this memorial was purchased on April 12, 1945, from William May. The property chosen was along Front Street, which included part of out lots 76 and 77. The hope of the Men’s Club was that the memorial would be a community undertaking with everyone in the territory making some contribution. The final cost of the memorial was $1,700.

The memorial was erected and originally included a glass case which contained a roll of the soldiers from Hudson Township who served in WWI or WWII. Dedication ceremonies took place in the fall of 1946. Sadly, vandals broke the glass and destroyed the Honor Roll. World War I veterans Clifford Lawrence and Fred Snavely were instrumental in replacing the glass case with a bronze plaque which reads:

Dedicated to the memory of those who made the supreme sacrifice–and in honor of those from this community who served in the Armed Forces of our country. When our country’s honor was at stake, they fought and sacrificed–their names and glory shall endure forever.
