The 1895 plat map of Hudson shows a house on lot 3 in the Dement Addition; therefore, it is believed that this house most likely was built in the 1890’s. According to the 1910 U.S.Census, Belle Berkley was managing a “boarding house” with her daughter as assistant manager. The census also listed three boarders and one servant living at the house.
Frank and Mildred Prahm owned the house in the 1920’s. They retained the hotel/boarding house business. The rate for boarding at the hotel was $9.00 per week for room, meals, and laundry. Their boarders included railroad workers and others who were passing through Hudson. The boarding house closed in the late 1950’s.
The floor on the lower level is still supported by axe logs with the bark still attached. When some remodeling was being done in the 1990’s, it was found after removing several layers of flooring upstairs, one was able to see where the original walls had been. The west side was divided into four small sleeping rooms, and the east side had larger rooms.
Besides the Berkleys and Prahms, five other families have been residents of the house. The current residents are the Curtis family.
